Karen Berglund’s author website — a project where purpose met play. Karen, a former teacher turned children’s author, needed a digital home that brought her humour-sprinkled stories and message-driven work to life in a way that’s both engaging for young readers and credible to schools, libraries and educators. We built a WordPress platform that balances whimsy with professional polish — showcasing her interactive books like They Call Me Quirky and Amos THE Famous, guiding visitors to author visits and freebies, and giving Karen full control of her content. With this site we didn’t just design pages — we created a launch pad for her author career that’s flexible, scalable and ready to grow.

Challenge & Solution

s a new children’s author transitioning from a teaching career, Karen needed a website that helped her stand out in a crowded debut-author space while still feeling authentic to her voice. The site had to appeal to two very different audiences at the same time — young readers who connect with playful storytelling, and educators/parents who look for credibility, clarity, and professionalism. The real challenge was making the brand feel both fun and trustworthy from the moment someone lands on the page.

We built a warm, story-driven WordPress site that introduces Karen as both an author and an educator with meaningful purpose behind her books. The layout highlights her titles and personality while also presenting clear pathways for school visits, downloads, and community engagement. The design balances whimsical visuals with clean structure, giving her a platform that feels joyful for kids but polished enough for institutions — and fully scalable as she releases more books.

Our Process

We started by clarifying Karen’s goals as a debut author — not just showcasing her first books, but building long-term credibility for school visits and future releases. From there we mapped out a user journey that would speak to both kids and educators, then designed a warm, character-forward visual identity that still feels structured and professional on the backend. Once the creative direction was locked in, we developed a custom WordPress layout with easy-to-manage sections for books, author info, resources and future expansions like printables or classroom materials.
